Gone Riding Mansfield

The High Country Hub for Barefoot Riders

In the heart of Victoria's High Country, Carmen, our Stockist Specialist had the pleasure of visiting Gone Riding , an independently owned equestrian store nestled in Mansfield.

It's not just a retail store—it's a vibrant centre for barefoot education, rider support, and community connection.

Gone Riding was established 14 years ago by Liz Siewart, a long-time endurance rider and equine diet therapist. Liz built the store from the ground up with one goal in mind: to provide riders with gear that supports healthy hooves, sound horses, and long miles. Today, her store caters to a wide variety of customers—from barefoot rehab clients and recreational trail riders to western performance competitors and high country trekkers. And at the heart of it all? Scootboots.

From Fitting to HoofWhat immediately stood out during the visit was the team’s deep knowledge and hands-on experience with our products. Every staff member not only sells Scootboots—they ride in them, fit them and believe in them. In fact, some customers travel up to two hours to have their horses fitted in person. The team sets up these fittings in the car park next to the Mansfield Visitor Information Centre, turning a simple boot appointment into a full-service hoof consultation.

They’re also actively collaborating with local barefoot trimmers, providing a seamless referral loop from trim to fit. Clients receive measuring guides, personalised support, and ongoing advice. For more complex cases, the team works closely with Scootboot HQ’s sizing team, ensuring every customer ends up with a boot that works.

The result? Very few returns and a high level of rider trust.

Boots in Action – and Honest FeedbackThe Scootboot Classic and Adjust models remain the top choices for their versatility and ease of use—especially for first-time boot users. The team shared strong positive feedback about the TheraRide, especially as a go-to for horses recovering from laminitis or transitioning back to light work. They’ve done a fantastic job educating their clients that TheraRide is a rehab and light-exercise solution, not a boot for heavy trail or performance riding.

A Community-Driven StoreGone Riding isn’t just a retail store. It’s a community resource, offering guidance, gear, and encouragement to riders at every level. Their clientele includes HRCAV members, endurance competitors, western riders, and barefoot rehab clients, as well as instructors and clinics using boots during training sessions.

One of the most exciting takeaways from the visit was the team's enthusiasm for growing awareness in western disciplines. They expressed strong interest in receiving more marketing materials and action footage of Scootboots in reining, cutting, and ranch work—particularly imagery that shows dynamic movements and pressure points under control. They also run their own newsletter and are eager to share these resources with their local VIP list to help promote boot use in their regional market.

What Stockists Can Learn from Gone RidingFor other Stockists around the world, Gone Riding is a brilliant example of what’s possible when product knowledge, genuine care, and community engagement come together. From creative solutions to common fit issues, to building trust with trimmers and offering hands-on fittings, Liz and her team have created a customer experience that’s both professional and personal.

Their merchandising is strong, their communication with clients is thoughtful, and their feedback to us is constructive and generous. Most importantly, they’re not just selling boots—they’re helping riders make better decisions for their horses.

As Scootboots continues to grow, it’s stockists like Gone Riding that remind us what this brand is really about: supporting horses, educating owners, and being there—on the ground and in the saddle—every step of the way.

Thank you, Liz and team.

We’re proud to have you in the Scootboot family.

Scoots Over Sliders?

Scootboots Are Leading the Way Especially at the 6666 Derby

As more Western riders seek out hoof protection that works both in and out of the arena, Scootboots continue to stand out—especially for one important reason:

They're the only hoof boots that can be fitted over sliders.

Whether your customers are reiners heading out for cross-training, horses in rehab, or owners just looking for a little extra protection during trailering or turnout, Scootboots offer an unmatched blend of flexibility, comfort, and performance—even when sliders are involved.

Fitting Scootboots Over Sliders – What You Need to Know

Fitting over sliders is slightly different to a barefoot fit due to the added bulk of the plate and nails. Here’s what we recommend:

Always size up one full size from the horse’s barefoot fit. For example, a horse that normally wears a size 0 will typically need a size 1 when wearing sliders. If the horse has not been fitted barefoot before, measure the shod hoof as usual—but allow for the extra width and height.

The boot should slide on easily and maintain its shape. If you’re forcing it or see distortion, it’s too small. A poor fit can cause overstretching, broken straps, and premature wear.

Classic vs. Adjust – Which Scootboot to Choose

The Scootboot Classic is our top recommendation for use over sliders, especially in the reining industry, where underrun heels and shallow angles are common. The Scootboot Classic’s lower-profile heel design offers a secure fit around the coronet without putting excess pressure on the bulbs.

For horses with higher heel bulbs, wider hooves, or significant asymmetry, the Scootboot Adjust provides a more flexible solution with its adjustable strap system—perfect for fine-tuning the fit or navigating more complex hoof shapes.

Why This Matters – Especially at the 6666 NRHA Derby

As we highlighted in last month’s update, Scootboots is proud to be a Gold Sponsor of the 2025 6666 NRHA Derby, one of the biggest events on the Western calendar, held this June in Oklahoma City.

Co-founder and Brand Ambassador Annette will be there in person, promoting Scootboots to the reining world and showing riders, trainers, and horse owners what makes our boots unique.

Here’s what your customers should know:

  • Scootboots are the only hoof boots that fit over sliders

  • Ideal for cross-training, trail riding, vet checks, and transport

  • Provide out-of-the-arena protection without compromising performance

This sponsorship gives Scootboots significant exposure in the Western performance market—and gives you, our stockists, a new opportunity to attract and support reining customers.

How Scootboots Are Supporting the Texas Mounted Police Posse

One of the most moving and inspiring parts of being involved with Scootboots is hearing how Scootboots are being used, not just for sport or trail—but to support real service horses doing meaningful work in their communities.

Earlier this month, we had the absolute pleasure of connecting with Marilyn Kinney from the Texas Mounted Police Posse. Based in The Woodlands, Texas, Marilyn and her fellow mounted volunteers have been serving their community for decades, patrolling festivals, supporting public safety, and showing up as proud representatives of horsemanship in uniform.

Their horses are more than partners, they’re team members. And many of them, including Marilyn’s own patrol horse Sonny (still proudly serving at age 27!), are now trying Scootboots as part of their regular work gear.

Memorial Weekend, Cowboy Boots... and Scootboots

Marilyn shared that several Posse members will be gathering for their annual ride at Train Robber Ranch, an equestrian destination nestled between Palestine and Rusk, Texas.

As part of their weekend, they’ll be:

  • Fitting Scootboots

  • Trialling the boots across a range of training obstacles

  • Participating in Equine Air Scenting exercises—an incredible initiative that combines mounted units with scent-based search work (yes, horses can scent-track!)

Marilyn’s passion for mounted service began in 1998 when she joined Alpha and Omega Mounted Security, and she’s remained in uniform ever since. One of the most touching moments in our exchange came when she shared a photo of her beloved patrol horse Clyde, taken at the Public Safety Awards in 2010. Clyde passed away in 2011—but Marilyn has continued to serve proudly with Sonny, who still takes his role seriously at age 27.

As she said so beautifully, “There’s something moving about being in uniform and on our horses.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Supporting the Horses That Serve
Supporting the Horses That Serve

At Scootboots, we’re honoured that our boots are trusted by units like the Texas Mounted Police Posse—not just for comfort and performance, but for real-life working applications. Whether it’s protecting hooves during patrol, providing grip during obstacle work, or simply keeping older service horses comfortable during long hours on duty, Scootboots are quietly doing their job alongside these incredible horses and their riders.

We can’t wait to see the photos from their Memorial Weekend ride—we know they’ll be something special.

To Marilyn, Sonny, and the entire Texas Posse: thank you for your service, your stories, and your trust.

It’s an honour to ride beside you, even from across the world.
