Considering going to events?
Attending events can be a fantastic way to grow your client base. It can also be daunting to prepare for a large event if it is your first time. We have sought the insight of two veteran Scoot Boot Stockists Stacy Pratt - Heartland Scoot Boot and Karen Cox - Timberline Tack. Stacy and Karen have attended events across the US from small time trails to large conference centres with thousands of attendees.
Although they are both US stockists, a lot of their advice applies no matter your region.
Keep it simple on the table (keep things in the back and only show if asked)
Don't talk about the Enduros or Skins unless asked
Just hand out brochures and cards and collect emails (don't sell at the show)
Marketing material: mini pull-up banner, biz cards, email form
Supplies you should always bring: packing tape, scissors, string, paper, permanent marker, and a hoof pick or two.
Clothing: take warm clothes, comfortable shoes, and good socks (can be cold and humid)
If you plan to sell at an event, check the local tax laws to ensure you are compliant
Karen’s secret: “Here's my big secret on getting people to the booth: get one person talking... It works like a magnet. I think people don't want to get stuck talking to a "salesman" so feel safer if the salesperson is busy with someone else, then they can eavesdrop. I usually start with "are you familiar with these, or any hoof boots?" And go from there. The best is when Scoot fans start telling other visitors all about the boots.”
